JUNE 13, 2015

Today has been a great day for rugby. The Men and Women's Eagles are pursuing an Olympic berth in our own backyard. The National Club Championships are being played at Rugbytown USA - Infinity Park in Glendale, CO.

The growth of the game has never been more evident than today.

We are sad to announce that we lost one of the great men who helped us get to this point. Edward "Ted" Hughes passed away June 12, 2015 after a courageous battle with cancer. Ted was 50 years old.

Ted was a founding member of the Bayonne (NJ) Rugby Football Club, remembered by his teammates as one of the most ferocious tacklers in Club history as well as an active and generous social member. He was inducted into the Bayonne RFC Hall of Fame in 2015. Ted served as President of the Metropolitan-NY Rugby Football Union and played a key role in developing the sport of rugby throughout the tri-state are during his tenure. He also served as the Disciplinary Chair of USA Rugby prior to stepping down from his position this year.

A graduate of Boston College and New York Law School, Ted spent his 20+ year career practicing law privately in the New York City area, specializing in commercial litigation. In addition, he was highly active in his community.

Our thoughts and condolences go out to Ted's wife Bridget and their children Kieran, Shannon and Cavan.

Thank you Ted for everything you have done for game of rugby in the United States. You will be missed.
